Retired RN Committed Relationship 2
Hello, Class of Flint Central HS 1970!

Thanks for stopping in, I look forward to welcoming you in person at our 50th class reunion next year. Please take a few minutes to add your name and a brief profile to this site so we can stay in touch with updates for the big celebration on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Of course, we're still looking for volunteers and ideas so whether you're still in Michigan or in another state (or country), we can use your input. Some of our class members are working with us remotely. Isn't technology wonderful?

Work: I went into the floral industry right out of high school and after working several years in a flower shop, I started a business called "Flowers, Etc." with a friend. That was fun but didn't really pay the bills so I enrolled in the nursing program at Mott Community College and graduated in 1982. I spent 33 years working in various nursing positions from a staff nurse at St. Joseph Hospital to Weight Loss Clinic, to a camp nurse for the Timbers Girl Scout Camp in Traverse City, MI then eventually in the home care setting for 20 years and as a school nurse for Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint for 13 years. Although I am still a licensed RN, I think I'm finally ready to hang up my purple stethoscope and retire.

For the last 5 years I worked from home as a remote interviewer for a Medical Research firm in the Chicago, IL area. I left there last year after the company was bought out and downsized their staff.

Personal: I married my husband, Greg (who was a 1969 Southwestern HS graduate) in 1979 and we had two children together. We parted ways in 1990, but we remain good friends.

Community Radio: I founded, produced and hosted a weekly one-hour radio show called Face the Music for 17 years on WFBE 95.1 FM. The public radio station was owned and operated by the Flint Board of Education (thus the call letters). As Flint Central students, you may remember that the physical station was located in the lower level of our school. In 1997 the radio frequency was sold to Liggett Broadcasting and became the current country station B-95. Sad day!

Film: In 1989 I "starred" as myself in Roger & Me, Michael Moore's first documentary film of international acclaim, grabbing my 3 minutes of fame! This movie came out the same year I did...

I've been living happily ever after with my partner, Maryetta for 19+ years in Flint in the house I grew up in.

I have two grown children and two grandchildren who I see as much as possible even though they don't live in the Flint area. Email, Facebook and Instagram help fill in the gaps.

That's a brief synopsis of my last 49 years. Let's see yours!

Kerry Humphrey
Retired Single

Currently reside on the east side of Flint, on the same street I grew up on but three doors down from my childhood home where my 90-year old mother and older sister (Kathleen 'Kate' Humphrey Fields - FC class of 1968) still live, so we're in the belly of the beast with regard to this challenging city.

I lived in Minneapolis for awhile after graduation from HS (nice city but winter, brrrr!), then returned to Flint, waitressed at the original Angelo's Coney Island for a year before being hired at Buick in a wave of women joining the assembly lines in the 70's.  AC Delco followed Buick, but as a 27-year-old in 1980 I chose to leave Flint and moved to the San Francisco/Bay Area for the next 20 years.  1982-2000, I worked as an admin assistant to four scientists at a biomedical research institute affiliated with UCSF (J. David Gladstone Institute(s)).  Remember folks, with the few exceptions like Bill Gates, Steve Wozniack, and Steve Jobs, nobody had a desktop computer in 1982!

In 2000, I chose to move to Oklahoma City, OK and supported three scientists at the OMRF (Oklahoma Medical Research Fdn), another basic biomedical reseach institute, affiliated with the University of Oklahoma, OKC. (Nice city but summers, whew!)

2006 found me back in Michigan, living first in Ypsilanti
for a generous year with my cousin. Luci (Rabdeau) Edwards (class of '70), before moving into Ann Arbor.

2007-2018, I worked
in Ann Arbor until retirement at the UofM Health System, Dept. Int Med, Div. HemOnc as an assistant to a breast oncology clinician/researcher in the UM Cancer Center (now the Rogel Cancer Center). [I moved back to Flint in 2009 and commuted for ~9 years via van pool.]

I'm currently doing volunteer work with the Eastside Coalition, trying to beat back blight, decay, and general antipathy.   Also a member of Los Gatos Foster Animal Rescue (Facebook).

p.s.   Forewarning: I'm an extremely liberal-leaning personality, but can play nicely with others.

I'll post then/now photos soon.
